THE MYSTICS OF BOYLE

The big news from The Jivenaires Showband, Boyle is that they will no longer be known as The Jivenaires. They are now known as THE MYSTICS. So, will all Jivenaires fans please note that they should now vote for THE MYSTICS.

The band first decided to change their name when they had arranged to bring out a folk record and needed a more folksy name. Later, when they scrapped the idea of a folk record, they decided to go ahead with the name change.

The Mystics will not use the "Showband" with their title as they feel that this is a term which is rapidly becoming old fashioned and is detrimental to a bands chances of hit parade success in England.

The Mystics were in Manchester for the last day of 1965 and the first two days of 1966. This was the last time they appeared as The Jivenaires. They were given a tremendous reception and were acclaimed by some as the best band they heard in months.

Among those who praised the band (which features charming vocalist Evelyn) were Maisie McDaniels and husband Fintan who attended one of their dances in Manchester. The band spotted the happy couple in the crowd and persuaded them to come up on the stage. They entertained the crowd for about half an hour and Maisie proved to be as popular as ever. Pity she is now retired from showbusiness.

On returning to ireland, The Mystics were kept busy appearing in various centres in counties Longford, Limerick, Mayo, Roscommon, Dublin and Offaly.

The mystics now feature organist-vocalist Dermot Hegarty who played with the Yardbirds before returning to Ireland.
